Now it is time to set up the gadgets. To do that, go to the LAYOUT section of your blog dashboard.
The pages gadget allows you to insert links in the top bar.
1. Go to the LAYOUT section of your blog.
2. Find the Pages gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
3. Now you decide which links you want to show on the top bar of your blog.
If you do not want to show any, just uncheck all the links and click on the save button.
If you want to show links that aren't static pages on your blog, click on + Add external link.
On PAGE TITLE you put the name you want to give to the link (which will appear on the top bar). And on WEB ADDRESS (URL) you put the link address. Click on SAVE LINK when you are done. You can add more links by repeating the same process.
If you want to show a link to a page you have created on Blogger itself, it is easier: just select the page(s) you want to show on the top bar.
Click on SAVE when you are done with the page list gadget. And attention with the number of links you decide to show. If it is too many, your blog design may look messy in some windows sizes.
Available icons:
Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube, Google+, Bloglovin', Email Flickr, Vine, Soundcloud, Goodreads, Spotify, Etsy & RSS feed.
1. Go to the LAYOUT section of your blog.
2. Find the social icons gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
3. Insert the site name and its URL (make sure that there is http:// before it). Then click to add the link. Repeat the same for the other social icons you want have on your blog.
In order to use the Email icon:

Insert the icon name and on the URL write mailto: before your email address. Like that:

mailto:hello@thebasicpage.com

Replace hello@thebasicpage.com with your own email and add the link.

4. Save the gadget when you are done.
In order to show a post on the slider, you need to label it with slider.
If your slider does not seem to be working:
- the widget doesn't work if the blog is set to private.
- make sure you have posts labeled under slider all in lowercase letters.
- make sure your blog feed is set to "Full" or "Until Jump Break".
You can see that going to: Settings (on the left bar) >> Other >> Site feed >> Allow Blog Feed.
1. On the LAYOUT section of your blog, find the INSTAGRAM gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
2. On the content area of the widget, write your Instagram username.

3. Save the gadget.
When it comes to the Popular Posts, you can change the title of the gadget. If the gadget doesn't seem to be working, try changing the 'most viewed' option. The gadget only displays images hosted on Blogger.
1. On the LAYOUT section of your blog, find the FOLLOW BY EMAIL gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
2. Change the title if you'd like.
3. Click on the save button.
In order to use the "About me" gadget, upload an image to use as your profile picture and write a little something about yourself in the caption. You can also change the gadget title. Also, do not select to shrink the image to fit.
In order to display a post on the Featured post gadget, go to the layout section, find the gadget and set the post you want to highlight. You can change the post at anytime.
In order to make the Youtube gadget work, you will need to get your YouTube Channel ID. How to:

1. Go to youtube.com/account_advanced.

2. Copy your YouTube Channel ID.
3. Now go to the LAYOUT section of your blog, find the YOUTUBE gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
4. On the content area, paste your YouTube Channel ID.
5. Save the gadget.
1. On the LAYOUT section of your blog, find the TWITTER gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.

2. On the content area, write your Twitter username.
3. Save the gadget.
1. On the LAYOUT section of your blog, find the PINTEREST gadget and click on the pencil to edit it.
2. Replace bibi with your own Pinterest username.
3. Save the gadget.
1. Go to the SETTINGS section.
2. Click on POSTS AND COMMENTS.
3. Set your blog to show at most 5 posts on the main page. If you use another number of posts, your blog won't work properly and some of your posts will not appear.

4. Save the settings.
1. Go to the SETTINGS >> BASIC section of your blog
2. Make sure that both HTTPS Availability and HTTPS Redirect are set to YES.
By standard, the first 400 (more or less) characters of a post will be shown on the homepage above the "read more" button. If you want to have full control on how much of the text will be displayed, you can use jump breaks. Insert the jump break right after what you want to display as the text preview. Everything below the jump break will only appear inside the post page.
Notice that only the first 400 characters of a post can be displayed on the homepage. Trying to use the jump break to show more than that amount won't work.
That's it!
Well, it was a pleasure guiding you! If you have any problem or question about the installation, feel free to contact me via email at: hello@thebasicpage.com
